Anthony (Anton) Greenaway

Is for better or worse, as improbable as it is, alive. Just like you, social deaths nonwithstanding. He holds a Masters in Philosophy with a minor focus on art theory, and is currently undertaking training in Logic Based Therapy, to qualify as an LBT Consultant. In the face of existence (as for us and as such), he thinks in line with Shakespeare that “out of this nettle, danger, we may pluck this flower safety.”

His philosophical method can be summarised as aiming to give the best response to the following lyrics: i) “All that you know about, all you can hide. All that you feel inside. Live in love.” -Live in Love by Times of Grace; ii) “Sophisticated ignorance, write my curses in cursive.” - Otis by The Throne; iii) “This is a gift, it comes with a price.”- Rabbit Heart by Florence and The Machine; iv) “Power to the people, when you see me, see you.”- Murder to Excellence by The Throne; v) “Who will fix me now? Dive in when I’m down? Save me from myself, don’t let me drown. Who will make me fight? Drag me out alive. Save me from myself, don’t let me drown.”- Drown by Bring Me The Horizon.

In short, his general rule is: our capacity to feel, oh so much, means that we’re vulnerable, imperfect and because, not in spite of that we are wonderful. Also forgiveness and compassion matter. So no matter how heavy, dark or trivial, he’s willing to a have a go at listening and helping you help yourself.

His method and approach draws from his training in both the Analytic and Continental traditions, an interest in pragmatism and an openness to philosophy however it’s made. Which shows in how he brings those influenced and responding to Heidegger in conversation with those influenced and responding to Wittgenstein, to answer the specific or general questions regarding how can, how do and how best to help someone live a good life. So if you want to talk about the in order to’s to (help) solve a problem, I’m game. Contrary to Biffy Clyro, living is not a problem because everything dies, living throws up problems and you will die. My reply to the conclusion of Demon(s) by Darkest Hour is that: “I won’t give up on you, and we don’t need to pretend. This is very much like a game, and whilst perfect completion is impossible, lets see what will do and how beautiful we can make it.”

His philosophical interests include Atheistic existentialism (you know who I’m on about), to Christian existentialism (not Kierkegaard but I will engage, rather Logstrup and MLK), Hermeneutics (Gadamer and Jauss), Speech-Act theory of Art (Daisy Dixon), Feminism (yes to all varieties), Afro-Pessimism(s) (I have critiques and furthering), Critical Theory (It’s what you get when you mix Marx, Heidegger and Freud), Black Male Studies, Masculinity, Black Radical Tradition, Value Theory, Political Philosophy (yes to all varieties), Absurdism (which is existentialism, fight me or ask me politely to explain), Interpersonal Morality, Sense of Self, Shared Experiences and last but not least watching films and listening to music that people recommend.

Anton is offering to cover for Katie and Victoria when they’re busy living life, video essays, podcasts and is (in training to offer) philosophical consultancy.
